How An Uncertain Trade Environment is Impacting the Industry of Apparel and Footwear; and how the Industry is responding
|Since 2018 the U.S. and China have engaged in a trade war that has resulted in increased costs, unpredictability, depressed job growth and a lack of innovation for many U.S. companies. While both countries concluded a “Phase One” deal providing some relief, current tariffs on apparel, footwear, backpacks have helped lead to a $2.5B increase in tariffs in 2019. On top of that, companies must now manage the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on global value chains. This session will explore opportunities to deal with the impact and uncertainty moving forward. Join Rich Harper, Manager of International Trade at Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) on the economic impact of increased tariffs, the coronavirus outbreak, and how businesses are responding, including embracing various tariff mitigation strategies and exploring sourcing options in Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) countries and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) partners
