Partner Spotlight: TESTEX — The Certification Partner Behind Sustainable Textile Trade

When a Canadian buyer asks a supplier for proof that their fabric is safe, ethically produced, or environmentally sound, there’s a very good chance the answer comes in the form of a TESTEX certificate.

TESTEX is an independent Swiss testing and certification organization that has been serving the global textile and leather industry since 1846 — 175 years of accumulated technical expertise. As the official OEKO-TEX® representative in 30 locations across five continents, and with an office in Vancouver, TESTEX has been a long-term partner of Apparel Textile Sourcing Canada since the show launched in 2016. This year, they’ll be back on the floor in Toronto as exhibitor booth 268.

What TESTEX Does — and Why It Matters for Canadian Buyers

At its core, TESTEX tests and certifies textiles and leather goods to international standards. But the practical impact for buyers goes well beyond lab results. In today’s sourcing environment, certification is how a manufacturer proves they are who they say they are — and TESTEX provides that proof in a form that is recognized and trusted across North American and European retail supply chains.

Their key certification and testing areas include:

  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 — Tests for harmful substances in every component of a textile product. One of the most recognized labels in global apparel retail.
  • OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN — Certifies that a product was made in environmentally friendly facilities under socially responsible working conditions.
  • OEKO-TEX® STeP — Factory-level certification covering chemical management, environmental performance, and social responsibility.
  • TESTEX CIRCULARITY — Assesses a product’s recyclability and material composition for circular economy compliance.
  • TESTEX MICROPLASTIC — Evaluates fiber shedding and microplastic release — an increasingly important metric for regulatory compliance in Europe and Canada.
  • UV STANDARD 801 — Tests UV protection in textiles — relevant for outdoor, sportswear, and childrenswear categories.

Why Certification Is Front of Mind in 2026

Two things are happening simultaneously in the Canadian sourcing market that make TESTEX’s work particularly relevant right now.

First, Canadian buyers are actively diversifying their supplier base — exploring manufacturers in Bangladesh, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, and beyond as part of a broader response to CUSMA uncertainty and tariff volatility. When you’re building new supplier relationships quickly, independently verified certifications are how you establish trust before the first order ships.

Second, TESTEX just published updated OEKO-TEX® regulations for 2026 and joined UNEP’s Retail4Impact initiative under the One Planet Network — both announced in March 2026. These moves signal that TESTEX is actively expanding its role in connecting global sustainability standards to retail supply chain decisions. For Canadian importers navigating evolving compliance requirements, that matters.

There is also growing regulatory pressure around PFAS — per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — in textiles. TESTEX published guidance on PFAS testing and new EU test methods in March 2026, ahead of tightening compliance standards. Canadian buyers sourcing into European channels or managing multi-market distribution need to be ahead of this curve.

TESTEX at ATS Canada 2026

TESTEX has been part of Apparel Textile Sourcing Canada since its first edition in 2016. Their presence at the show reflects a consistent commitment to the Canadian market — a market where sustainability credentials are increasingly a baseline expectation rather than a differentiator.

At the 2026 Toronto show — September 23–25 at The International Centre — TESTEX will be at booth 268. Their Vancouver office gives Canadian buyers and manufacturers a direct local point of contact for certification inquiries, audits, and compliance questions that don’t require going through an international channel.

For any buyer or brand working to verify supplier compliance, get OEKO-TEX® certified, or understand what’s changing in textile regulations in 2026, the ATS show floor is the right place to have that conversation in person.
